Obituary guidelines for copy editing by Jelani james

There are multiple things you can use in order to do an obituary for a copy editing project. I mean to me the editing tools will come as basic as they can be such as an Ap Style book, and a dictionary, but for something like this fact-checking is the most important. You wanna make sure whoever wrote this is very accurate about the death and information put on paper to eventually be published. You don’t want any wrong doings about the death of someone because you can’t just ask them yourself such as the format.

Personal information: Name, age, city and state of birth (please do not provide the exact date of birth, which increases the chance of identity theft).

Date and location of death.

What actually made them unique? Education, military, career, clubs, organizations, church, hobbies, and special interests.

Survivors? Separate relationship in “levels” rather than “families” — spouse; children (spouse); grandchildren (spouse); siblings; etc.

Maybe even service information? Viewing (if appropriate) will be from (time) on (day) at (place) in (city, state). A (memorial, Mass, service, celebration of life) will be held at (time of day, day of week) at (funeral home, church, park, etc.) in (city, state) with burial at (cemetery name, city).

Also you can see if any donations were made and see if names wanna be put in as well.

Something I Can't Stop Talking by Jelani james

The Social Norms of young adults in society today? The Pressure? The Guilt? Every young  adult in today’s generation after high-school is expected to go to college, and get a good job, have a family, etc. I wanna shift into another sensitive topic about the social expectations in 2018 is that being gay is wrong, the color of your skin, etc. I don’t want sit here, and preach about whats right, and whats wrong. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. There are hundreds of examples of Norm Violations such as public behavior : walking on the wrong side of the sidewalks, wearing clothes backwards, eating soup with a fork. The Social Normalities can be as simple as not flushing the toilet after you use the bathroom, which even today that is beginning to be a social norm if I am gonna be honest. Breaking the social norms today startles a lot of people, and starts major controversy. Nowadays people can’t even express opinion without being judged, the public is so scared to be judged that they change their personal image to someone they aren’t. Lets bring it back to the topic of young adults going to college. As a college student myself its hard, coming out of high school being 18, they expect you to know what you wanna do for the next 30+ years of their life. Kids will start college, and find out it’s not for them, and dropout. Which then they are looked at as a failure, or not educated enough for opinions. I’ve seen it firsthand. College isn’t easy , the financial hardships? debt? Hard work? just to maybe get a job when you graduate. College is primarily one of the biggest scams with a bigger risk, than reward. Most people aren’t willing to take that risk, and are finding better ways of income which is okay, but apparently not the social norm. College Undergrads are even overly judged on what major they take up. Students, parents, will try and decide what you want to do with your life. For example Art Majors I feel are constantly made to seem like their futures are gonna be in the garbage making no money. How do you think that person feels? You just potentially made that student feel insecure, and look into changing his/her career path just with a couple of unjustified words said. This just doesn’t go for art majors this goes for all majors that society thinks are under performing in the real world. Just wanted to remind the viewers/readers that I am not trying to change the minds of how people think, or how they live their life personally. It’s just a topic that always seem to be a problem, and that I address on certain occasions when neccessary. Proving a point that the perfect adult just isn’t made the “perfect” way anymore. More resources, more connections, different oppurtunities, specific requirements are all in the hands of young adults now, and can be used to their advantage.  The Social Norms are changing through generations, and the generation I live in currently is changing right in front of my eyes.

Throwback Fashion is Making a Comeback? by Jelani james

Champion x FILA

What I have come to notice in the year 2018, is that trends are changing consistently, and people’s opinions are changing rapidly. 10 years ago brands such as Champion, and FILA weren’t the trendy clothes to wear. When I was in middle school, they weren’t the high fashion brands, those expensive brands that the cool kids wore. People would be bullying other kids just for wearing a specific brand like Champion, and FILA.  So what happened? These 2 brands were sold at locally for cheap at stores such as Walmart, Target, and other local retailers, and every just seemed to never wear it, but now all of sudden in 2018. These exclusive places like Urban Outfitters wants to bring back these brands, and re-sell for a ridiculous amount of money. A shirt that used to be $15 at Target, is now an exclusive buy for $65 online. I was just lost for words. Now these brands are highly on the market, and is on high demand. These are what people are wearing today now, but as of a decade ago it was lame. My theory is that clothing stores look at it as a throwback brand that everyone overlooked at one point, but now are socially accepting it since its being sold at a higher price, with better value. With other big brands such as Gucci, Supreme, and LV doing clothing collaborations with these brands there’s no doubt that these prices will skyrocket even further.

How To Become a Hype beast and Get into Fashion by Jelani james

What you should and should not be doing when getting into fashion

The year is 2019, and everyone is trying to become a fashion icon right away. Yeah it might not be a big deal at the end of the day, but to most people, a logo means a lot. People may say “wow people spend thousands on a shirt that you can get for $30” well yeah that could be true, but the quality just isn’t the same, and of course the social norms aren’t gonna accept that anymore, especially in this generation. So I want to start off by saying brands like Off-White, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, and Balenciaga. Do not start buying these huge market brands right off the bat. UNLESS you hit the lottery, or you’re just rich and you got it like that just drop them for the moment. you can start with Supreme, Yeezy, palace, and even Anti Social Club. You could try to get all of these for retail, for example a supreme tee could cost about $200, but you could get it for retail for about $55. The strategy is to try, and start out low, and not spend a lot of money at the time. Once you have a good collection of good fashion that isn’t too high fashion, then you might wanna spend big on maybe a Bape hoodie, or Off-White hoodie, or even Gucci shoes. I wanna get into like the more affordable brands, but not dirt cheap but good quality clothing for a good price. Pacsun & Zumiez are a good way to start buying clothes at a good price, $25 – $75 prices could vary. I would like to say A brand like champion. I explained this in my last post champion used to be sold at places like target and walmart. Brands like this you have to know which collection to go after as well. Graphic tees that have a subject such as bands, movies, cartoons, music artists, anything please make sure you relate. Don’t wear a shirt you can’t quote from. I want to get into first to cap it all off, ( Vans, Nike, Adidas ). I want to start out by saying this Vans are a must have in your collection you see everyone with vans even celebrities wear them. Skateboarders , actors, etc. You own a pair of van somewhere – somehow. Nike has just so many signature shoes that are just sublime for such great prices such as the Cortez, air maxes, huaraches, air forces. The list could go on with anything even with throwback clothing, adidas kind of took over the game in 2017 with newer releases of ultra boosts, and yeezy’s. All in all the best places that are great to start out are Zara’s, Urban Outfitters, Pacsun, and Zumiez.

COMME des Garçon? by Jelani james

COMME des Garçons? This is a high profiled brand founded in 1969.  This is a Japanese fashion label based in Tokyo also in Paris where is actually launched in its first fashion show in 1981. Since 2008 on its rise this label has done multiple collaborations with Levi, Supreme, Louis Vuitton, Nike, etc. Also an H&M line that released in fall 2008. This brand has always been known with its heart-shaped logo with 2 eyes. They made a line called “Play” for the younger market for teenagers, and people in there 20s such as me. “Play” is currently leading the market making it the best-selling line that they have. When “Play” debuted it was seen worn by multiple celebs such as Justin T, Kanye West, and Pharrell Williams. After that like I said they went into works with other high profiled fashion labels, and now are viewed as a prominent fashion brand not just in Tokyo, and France but internationally like the U.S. This brand also are very big on perfumes and fragrances doing a Unisex fragrance with Pharrell Williams in 2014.

Comme des Garçons has multiple store outlets around the world such as London, Paris, New York City, Beijing, Hong Kong, Seoul, St. Petersburg, Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Fukuoka.

I had the opportunity to go to their New York City store and check it out myself. The clothes were nicely made and they prices remind me very much of Supreme’s line of pricing, maybe between $120+ per shirt. What I did love were the Converse collaboration they did. Regular high top Chuck Taylors that were originally $55 retail were now $125 which still isn’t bad. So I tried on to see which size worked for me, and I got me a pair. The material is nicely made, it’s completely different from a regular pair of Converses. I was very impressed, and will recommend it to everyone.
